WATER QUALITY.

Posted on 18th March 2025.

Water quality and water testing is a topic that gets mentioned almost every time I visit the Rife and talk to people there.

I am aware that the Enviroment Agency and Rivers Trust conduct tests there and the Ferring Conservation Group have been conducting monthly tests since June 2023 as part of a two year partnership with the Angling Trust.

This is such an important topic about the rife and it is very comforting to know organisations like these are involved with this.

I hope to publish information about results of testing in the future.

What I do observe myself is that the water has been very clear recently. Only after a period of heavy rain does the water look murky for about 24-48 hours after a downpour.

The fact that there is good plant life, fish, frogs and newts must be an indicator of good water quality. Also the presence of birds such as the Kingfisher, Little Egrets and Herons must also be a good sign.
