The Ferring Rife stretches from the seafront and heads north inland for a few miles.
The main section that is accessible on public footpaths (and where I visit) goes from a road called Rife Way at the northern end, where the red pin is on the map (Postcode BN12 5JZ) to the seafront at Ferring beach (Postcode BN12 5QZ).
The distance between these two locations is about 1 mile.
This is a public open space with footpaths connecting from all directions which are well signposted.
Ferring village shops are in Ferring Street, where you will find a lovely variety of premises to meet most peoples needs. Local buses stop here and then it is about a 10 minute walk to the start of the Rife footpaths next to the Ferring Country Centre.
There is parking available on the roads near to the Country Centre entrance. The car park for the Country Centre is only for visiters there.
From here, there are footpaths on both sides of the rife and a small road bridge over the water which gives access to the west side.
The footpaths can get very muddy, so appropriate footwear will be needed for a lot of the year. Anybody with mobility restrictions will still be able to access some of the walk south (east side) but the ground is somewhat uneven.
That east side (Ferring village) is definitely the easier one to walk along, There are a few wooden benches located along this section for a rest if needed.
A few minutes walk south from the northern end is a footbridge called the Brook Lane bridge. This is good stop off point and the other place to cross over the water. Next place to swap sides is once you reach the seafront.
At the southern end by the beach is a good sized car park, public toilets and the Blue Bird Cafe. This car park can get full quite quickly, especially at the weekend when there is good weather. There are lovely walks to be had in each direction along the seafront from here.
The nearest railway station is Goring-By-Sea, which is about two miles to the east. Average walking time is about 40 minutes I would guess. This is to the northern end of the Rife.
